Warner Leland Armstrong, 85, of Patoka, took his first breath in Heaven on May 20, 2025. Leland was born July 10, 1939 to George L. and Frances (Campbell) Armstrong, both of whom precede. He married Joan "Jo" (White) Armstrong on April 14, 1962. They were married for 54 years and had two sons, Greg and Scott. Leland was a 1957 graduate of Mt. Olympus High School. He enlisted in the Army in 1958, then spent 2 years driving a truck in Germany as a specialist 4th Class. After his service in the military, he worked for many years as a heavy equipment operator at G. J. Rode & Sons. He was a lifetime member of the NRA and a member of the American Legion Post 25. In his early years, Leland liked to hunt and fish on the White River with his brothers. He also enjoyed arrowhead and mushroom hunting. He loved to eat at and visit the Union Store and The Village Inn. After retirement, he loved helping his good friend Tony Schroeder farm.
Leland enjoyed spending time with his grandkids Jason, Kyle, Caden, Colt, and Caleb. He loved taking his youngest grandson, Caleb, to Casey's for slushies. His great grandchildren loved to sit with him at the kitchen table and listen to stories about his past. After Leland's cancer diagnosis, he would tell his family, "I don't want to leave my good family, but I am ready to go." His last words were to his family, "I love you." Leland was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Joan, his brothers, Jerry and Joe Armstrong, and his sister-in-law, Wanda Armstrong, with whom he shared many meals and cups of coffee. Leland is survived by his sons, Greg (Tracy) Armstrong of Union, and Scott Armstrong of Petersburg; his sisters, Marlene (Bob) Loveless of Princeton, Lisa (Gene) Brewer of Mt. Carmel, and Ann (Lee) Donaldson of Monroe City; his special niece, Kristi (Wayne) Vandivier of Francisco; his grandchildren: Jason, Kyle, Caden, Colt, and Caleb Armstrong; his great grandchildren: Trenton, Rhett, Stanley, Audra, and Tony Armstrong; and many nieces and nephews. It is the privilege of Doyle Funeral Home of Princeton to be of service to the Armstrong family.
