Phyllis Ann (Corn) Crawford passed away peacefully in the comfort of her own home on December 9, 2025, at the age of 82 years old (one month away from her 83rd birthday).
Phyllis was born January 9, 1943, in Winslow, IN to Jeffrie and Helen (Powers) Corn. She was the seventh child in a family of seven girls and one boy. She grew up in Winslow, IN and graduated from Winslow High School in 1961. She married Christopher Miller Crawford on January 25, 1964, in Petersburg, IN at the Main Street Presbyterian Church.
Phyllis worked as a beautician before deciding to be a stay-at-home mother. While keeping very busy as a mother, Phyllis was an active volunteer at her children's schools including Park Tudor School and Indianapolis Public Schools. She also volunteered with organizations supporting local needs, such as Keeping Indiana Beautiful, Arthritis Guild, The Indianapolis Art Museum (Newfields), Eagle Creek Park and Indianapolis Canoe Racing Council.
Phyllis loved to garden and enjoy nature with a special devotion to “her" birds. She found joy in watching them gather at her feeders, delighting in their colors and songs, and often sharing that love with her children and grandchildren. Her appreciation for the natural world was a reflection of her gentle spirit and her ability to find beauty in life's simplest moments.
More than anything, Phyllis loved her family. She poured her heart into raising her children and cherished every moment with her grandchildren. She was the kind of grandmother who never passed up a puzzle, a word search or a lively game of Farkle, and she made each child feel uniquely loved. Over the years, she welcomed many other children into her life, loving them as if they were her grandchildren.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents, Jeffrie and Helen (Powers) Corn, Her sisters, Martha Meyers, Mary Butler (Ron), Gail Johnson (Don), Marlene Fitch (Richard), Jane Bailey (Charlie), and her husband, Christopher Miller Crawford (2007). She is survived by her brother, Jeff Corn (Marlene) and Sister Delta Nordhorn (Tom), her four children, John Crawford, Andrew Crawford (Dawn), Anne Crawford (Edward), and Jane Crawford (Russell) and grandchildren, Michael Crawford, Megan Crawford, Katie Crawford, Lauren (Ellie) Janeira, Aloysious (Christopher) Tasch and her bonus grandchildren Brian Janeira, Adam Janeira (Kelsey), Stuart Johnson (Hallie), and Sydney Johnson, plus two bonus great-grandchildren Mercy and Jubilee Janeira.
