Marilyn Mowry, age 94, of Princeton, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 27, 2026, at River Oaks Health Campus in Princeton.
Marilyn was born on November 10, 1931, to John and Clara Schrodt in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. She grew up during the height of the Great Depression, with 2 older brothers, Charles and John. Her father worked tirelessly to provide for the family, and they created a close family bond. The family later moved to Owensville and eventually settled in Princeton. She graduated from Princeton High School in 1949.
Marilyn married her first love, William “Billy Pres” Milburn in 1950. He sadly died prematurely from emphysema in 1961. She married Kenneth Mowry in 1963, and they were married for over 25 years. Throughout her life, Marilyn created a home that was filled with joy, a welcome (and always clean!) place to go, and a friendly warm place to share a laugh or a few tears along the way. She was an active member of the Methodist church and served as a Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star. In later years she volunteered to assist with activities at River Oaks Assisted Living Center for the residents, whom she humorously referred to as “old folks,” though many were younger than she was.
Marilyn is survived by her children, Vickeri Jane Milburn and John Preston Milburn; her grandchildren, Dawn (Weisheit) Green, Andrea (Weisheit) Lamey, Matt Weisheit, Dr. Preston Milburn, John Andrew (Drew) Milburn, Briggs Milburn, and Paige (Milburn) Timms along with their spouses. She had 16 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her brothers, her husbands, and her stepdaughter, Marla (Mowry) Seibert.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Marilyn will always be remembered for her friendliness, her generous heart, and the love she gave so freely to everyone around her.
